The North Shore Health Department is promoting radon testing in our communities and increasing lung cancer awareness through our radon prevention program.
January is radon action month and is the perfect time to test. Testing conditions require all windows and doors to be closed which is why the winter season is ideal for testing. Radon is a radioactive gas and the second leading cause of lung cancer according to the Surgeon General. You can’t see it, smell it, or taste but your home could be affected. A short term test kit measures the radon levels in the air and remains in your home for 2 days. It is a simple and easy test to use and is available at the North Shore Health Department for $5.00.
