If you are paying 2021 taxes in installment payments, the second installment is due on March 31 and the third is due on May 31, 2022. We recommend that you mark your calendar so that you are not late for an installment payment because no reminder notices will be sent.
There is a payment dropbox located in the middle of the Police Department Parking Lot. Please note that for mailed payments, the postmark governs the date of payment - not the date on your check. Payments will also be accepted at City Hall Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A credit card option is available with an additional 2.9% fee of the payment amount.
To view your tax bill online or more payment information, please visit http://glendale-wi.org/.

All property owners are reminded that Glendale City Ordinance requires all public sidewalks and curb ramps to be kept clear of snow and ice within 24 hours from the time snow ceases to accumulate.
After each inclement weather event, the city will inspect all sidewalks and curb ramps to ensure they are safely passable. If a sidewalk or curb ramp is not safely passable, a notice may be posted or otherwise placed at the property indicating the need to comply with the snow and ice removal requirement within a specific time.
Upon re-inspection, any sidewalk or curb ramp not properly cleared will be cleared by the city with all costs and expenses, including administrative fees and/or ice and salt/sand costs, charged to the property owner or manager as a special assessment. Residents are also asked to help keep area fire hydrants cleared of snow to allow easy access in case of a fire.

Based upon the expected snowfall this season, we wish to remind you of the city's long-standing snow removal and salting policy.
Normally, the city does not plow streets unless the total accumulation of snow is 3 or more inches. Anything less is typically covered by salting operations.
Operations commence at the request of the Police Department or at the determination of the Public Works Director based upon weather conditions.
Major thoroughfares have first priority. The city does not have a "bare street" program for residential areas. In other words, for residential streets, salting is typically reserved for intersections, hill, mid-blocks and curved roadways.
As much as people would like, it is impossible for the city to schedule snow removal times to coincide with their respective snow shoveling or snow removal from their driveways. Plowing streets inevitably will put snow on property owner's driveway approaches.
If possible, the major thoroughfares will be plowed and salted by morning. Residential side streets will not be completed until the major streets are completed.
As a reminder the city does not plow or maintain County or State highways located within Glendale. Those streets include North Green Bay Avenue north of West Good Hope Road, West Good Hope Road from North Port Washington Road went to the City limits. West Mill Road, North Milwaukee River Parkway and North Port Washington Road from West Daphne Road north to the city limits.
The city's 12-person Public Works Department is responsible for all snow removal.
Please have the appropriate amount of patience and understanding with the Public Works Department in this type of climate.

Fire Extinguishers: Frequent Questions that Need Answers By: Battalion Chief Dan Tyk, North Shore Fire/Rescue
We have written about fire extinguishers at least a couple of times in the last several years, however it still remains one of the most common topics we receive calls about in our administrative offices; so, we will take some time this month to cover a number of the most asked topics about them:
Choosing an Extinguisher: We don not recommend any particular brand extinguisher; however, consumers should keep their eye out for models that have been approved by UL, or other trusted consumer testing companies. Likewise, units purchased for use in the home should be ABC type extinguishers, meaning they have been approved for various types of fires; including wood and paper (Type A), grease, oil and flammable liquids (Type B), and electrical (Type C). Generally, you can find an extinguisher that will be a good-fit for residential use at most big-box or local hardware stores.
Placement: Most fires in the home happen in the kitchen. Therefore, the logical place to put your home fire extinguisher is in a readily accessible area within the kitchen. It is always best to ensure it never gets buried behind other items in a pantry or cabinet. Mounting it on a wall where it can be grabbed quickly is ideal. Additional extinguishers should be kept throughout the home, where they can be accessed quickly to be used for escape. Remember, fire extinguishers are designed to facilitate safe escape from a home, not to make you a firefighter. Never go away from an exit to attempt to extinguish a fire. Instead, get out and stay out!
Life Expectancy: This is a tough question to answer. Varying manufacturers have different life expectancies depending on the model. Generally speaking, household extinguishers are good for anywhere from 5 to 15 years. Always read the labeling and any instruction manuals that come with the extinguisher prior to placement in your home. Here you will find manufacture and expiration/life expectancy dates.
Disposal: Unused residential extinguishers that are expired generally have pressure behind them and should not be thrown into the trash until the pressure is expelled. To expel pressure, place the nozzle into a garbage bag with a tight hold around the hose while outside and away from any open windows or doors. Expel the contents of the dry chemical into the garbage bag to dispose of it and then thrown the container away as well. Generally speaking, residential extinguishers are not recyclable. Commercial grade extinguishers are usually rechargeable through a local service company and should not be thrown away. The fire department does not collect or dispose of old extinguishers.
Our Community Risk Reduction Specialist is always happy to review some basic extinguisher use principles with you as a part of our free Home Safety Assessment Program. Visits can be scheduled through our website.
