Under Wisconsin law, voters do not need a reason or excuse, such as being out of town on Election Day, to vote absentee. Any qualified elector who is unable or unwilling to appear at the polling place on election day may request to vote an absentee ballot. A qualified elector is any U.S. citizen, who will be 18 years of age or older on election day, who has resided in the ward of the municipality where he or she wishes to vote for at least 28 consecutive days before the election. The elector must also be registered in the City of Glendale in order to receive an absentee ballot. If you are not sure that you are registered, you can verify the information at MyVote.WI.gov Please note that a new voter registration application is required any time you move (even minor changes such as apartment units), change or name, or if you have not voted in the past four years.

Requesting an Absentee Ballot

Applications for Absentee Ballot can be downloaded and are also available in the City Clerk's Office. The easiest way to request an absentee ballot is to do so at MyVote.WI.gov An application or other written request must be submitted to the Clerk's Office, with a copy of your photo ID, before an Absentee Ballot can be issued by mail:

In-Person Absentee Voting

Voter Photo ID

Voter Photo ID is required in most absentee voting circumstances. Unless you are a military voter, permanently overseas voter, or are indefinitely confined, you must provide a copy of your photo ID to keep on file. If you are not sure if you have an ID on file already, please feel free to contact the City Clerk's Office. Please visit the Voter Photo ID page for more information.

Voters who are indefinitely confined (meaning they have difficulty getting to the polls due to age, illness, infirmity, or disability) may request an absentee ballot be mailed to them for every election by checking the appropriate box on the application. Indefinitely confined voters are not required to provide photo ID.

Absentee Ballot Deadlines

The deadline for making application to vote absentee by mail is 5 p.m. on the 5th day before the election.

• The deadline for voting an absentee ballot in the Clerk's Office is 5 p.m. on the Friday before the election.
• For voters requesting a ballot within 10 days of the election: Because ballots must be received by the Clerk's office (either by mail or in-person) no later than Election Day, you are strongly encouraged to visit the Clerk's Office during In-Person Absentee Voting.
• The Municipal Clerk will deliver voted ballots returned on or before election day to the proper polling place before the polls close on election day. Any ballots received after the polls close will not be counted.
